Secondary School (10 + years)

Adolescence is a critical time for brain growth and students move from concrete to abstract thinking as well as seeking independence and the control of impulses and emotions.

Avondale’s distinctive Secondary Years’ curriculum, based on the Australian Curriculum, is designed to meet the developmental needs of young adolescents and embed opportunities for the development of 21st Century competencies. These are the transferable knowledge criteria and skills that students require if they are to be successful in the workplaces of the future.

A Mentoring programme based on goal setting and recognition of personal strength based strategies, underpins and supports the high expectations for excellence of the academic programme. Students are extended beyond the classroom through leadership training, camp programmes and involvement in sport and extra-curricular offerings.
