What curriculum does Avondale follow

The Avondale Preschool Programme that is used by our teachers is based on principles that align with, the UK Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and the Australian Early Years Framework for teaching with a curriculum that is inquiry, play-based and with a strong focus on developing early Literacy and Numeracy skills. Junior School, Primary School and Secondary School, we follow the Australian Curriculum.

What school ages does Avondale cater for?

We cater for children from 3 years to 14 years of age.

How many students are there at Avondale?

We have approximately 350 boys and girls from all over the world, enrolled across the entire School.

What are your methods of communication between the School and parents?

All parents receive a weekly e-newsletter from the School detailing current events and activities. There are also numerous parents’ evenings, information events and talks hosted by the School to enable a close relationship between parents and academic staff. Parents are always welcome to contact their child’s class teacher with regards to any questions they may have. Parent / teacher interviews are conducted throughout the year and School reports are distributed to parents at the conclusion of both Semester 1 and Semester 2 of each year. The Parents’ Association emails a weekly Newsletter to all parents detailing events and relevant parent information.

What time do classes start and finish?

The Preschool day formally starts at 8.45am, however, children and their parents are welcome to arrive from 8.15am when parents are invited to share with their children, excitement in learning and activities together. The Preschool day concludes at 3.00pm. The Junior, Primary and Secondary School commence each day at 8.25am. The Junior School day concludes at 3.15pm, whilst the Primary/Secondary School day concludes at 3.20pm. Click here to see an example of our school day.

What languages do you teach at the school?

Languages play a very important part of the each child’s education at Avondale. Children are provided with the opportunity of learning either Mandarin or French and classes for these Languages are provided to the children each day as part of their learning programme.

What are the class sizes?

We offer a personal schooling environment with attractive teacher to child ratios allowing us to truly get to know your child. Class sizes are small. In the Preschool, the teacher/child ratio is 1:8 and all Preschool classes have assistant teachers. In the Junior School, the teacher/child ration is 1:11 with the addition in each class of an assistant teacher who focuses on supporting children with Literacy and Mathematics skills. In the Primary School, the teacher/child ratio is 1:24, however, most class sizes are considerably smaller then the official ratio.

Can my child start half way through a term at Avondale?

We would be delighted to accept your child and welcome children at any stage of our school year.

When can my child enter the Preschool?

We accept children into the Early Years 1 class in the Preschool when they turn 3 years of age and are toilet trained. We accept children into the Early Years 2 class in the Preschool when they are 4 years of age.

Where are the teachers recruited from?

Our recruitment criteria is based upon the quality of teachers rather than nationality. We have teachers from Australia, UK, Singapore, New Zealand and a number of other nationalities.

What are the school fees?

Where is Avondale located?

Avondale is a centrally located school in the heart of Singapore. It is located 5 minutes from Orchard Road, 15 minutes from the city and close to many of the main residential areas. Please click here to see a map of Singapore and our locations.

How do most children travel to and from school each day?

As is common in Singapore, many children take the bus which is a popular and convenient means of transport. The School’s closeness to the CBD and many residential areas means that many parents drop off their children on their way to and from work. Do you have a school canteen?

Yes, we have the Rainforest Café at the School. Children can either bring packed lunches of pre-purchase lunches. Click here for more details.
