ABOUT: Dennis Doherty, T.C., B.Ed., M.Ed. (hons) is the Executive Director of Avondale Grammar School. Previous to taking up this appointment Dennis was the Principal Consultant and proprietor of Pathways International Consulting Pty Ltd. Over the last ten years Pathways has been a recognised leader in consultancy services to the Independent school sector in Australia and beyond and numbered among its regular clients some of Australia’s leading schools and school systems.

Dennis first qualified as a primary school teacher in Queensland. Since then he has worked as a teacher, educational adviser, principal, schools consultant, instructional designer, lecturer in education, supervisor of schools, head of curriculum for a school system and planning consultant. He holds a Bachelor of Education degree and a Master of Education with honours.

Through his involvement in Educational Administration and Curriculum leadership in Catholic Education in Queensland and New South Wales, Dennis has been engaged in the development and implementation of performance and organisational review processes and strategic planning for personnel as well as schools, Boards and Councils, and school systems.

Skilled at leading organisations in the process of situational analysis, review, visioning and strategic planning, Dennis has guided a number of schools and other organisations through significant review and development processes and future planning. He has a vast experience in all aspects of organisational operation and personnel development. He is a people person with considerable experience in mediation and facilitation of group decision making. Dennis has pioneered processes for school and organisational renewal, personnel performance review and mentoring processes that are centred on self-reflection and group visioning.

Dennis is married to Deborah who is also an experienced educator. He has a keen interest in sport generally and rugby in particular.

ABOUT: Mrs. Karen Nicholls comes to us as our new Assistant Principal (Head of Early Years) and is currently the Principal of Eton House Preschool in Singapore. Previously, Mrs. Nicholls has been the Principal of Qatar Academy, an Early Education Centre in Doha, Qatar amongst a host of senior leadership positions in International Schools in Singapore and abroad.

Mrs. Nicholls has worked extensively with the British Curriculum, The Early Years Framework and the Australian Curriculum, and her mission is to “support the development of a strong school community through the management and the delivery of a high quality education for young children…As a committed educator I am driven by what is in the best interests of children and in developing and supporting families.” I’m sure with such an outlook she will fit in well at Avondale.

Amongst her other experiences, Mrs. Nicholls has been involved in the recruitment and training of teachers for the International Baccalaureate and in running professional development sessions on a range of topics. We are very fortunate to have secured the services of an educational leader with such a depth of expertise and experience.

Mrs. Nicholls began her working life as a Flight Attendant for Ansett Airlines.

Louise Loxton

ABOUT: In 2015-2016 Ms Louise Loxton was a Consultant Principal at PPMAS International School in Thailand. Ms Loxton has brought wonderful expertise and experience to Avondale and we are very fortunate to have the services of such a respected educational leader. In the 1990s she taught at Hurlstone Agricultural High School, NSW and more recently was Acting Head of Seniors at Dover Court International School, Singapore.

As an educational leader for more than 30 years, Ms Loxton has worked in Senior management, teaching, lecturing and various consultancy appointments. She has successfully transformed English Departments in four Secondary schools in the UK, run a PGCE Secondary English course at Bath Spa University, and led the PGCE Secondary Programme at the University of Plymouth, UK.
Ms Loxton’s work has been highly commended by Local Authorities, Ofsted and by National Challenge in the UK; all of whom have endorsed her extensive leadership skills, strategic vision and drive to successfully implement change. She has implemented sustained improvement in the teaching of English and drama across a range of educational institutions in culturally diverse environments.
Ms Loxton has a Master’s Degree in Education and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and has in the past worked extensively in international and local schools in Singapore. She is excited about leading and driving the implementation of our new Learning Framework here at Avondale, and will drive the development of our Secondary School as we progressively add new cohorts in the future.
In her spare time Ms Loxton enjoys keeping fit and is a keen swimmer, walker and cyclist. She also enjoys playing the piano and cooking, and has recently published a book of children’s plays based on myths and legends from South-east Asia and Korea.

ABOUT: Ms Timbas has taught in international schools in Singapore for over 6 years prior in joining Avondale in 2016. She managed an Infant and toddler Atelier and has been working with children ages 6 months to 3 years old.
Ms.Timbas is currently taking her Post Graduate Certificate in Education in Nottingham University (UK).

She has 13 years of teaching experience and after working in a government institute in Beijing and an international organization (OECD) in Paris, France. She has achieved being a successful engineering and a Cambridge ‘O’ level mathematics, chemistry and physics teacher during her stay in Singapore. Her passion was lying in teaching Mandarin after she focused on working in international schools and being the head of Mandarin for 6 years. She has a variety of experience across traditional academy and IB curriculum and has successfully collaborated Mandarin lesson with performing arts and other subjects during her teaching career.

ABOUT: Ms Gao joined Avondale in April 2016. ABOUT: Since qualifying as an Early Years Specialist, Ms Tian has had a rich and varied career culminating in joining Avondale in January 2016. Following her appointment as a Deputy Principal in 2007, a highlight of 20 years teaching, she has for the last 8 years followed her passion for teaching Chinese. As a teacher and former Head of Mandarin, Ms Tian is broadly experienced having both trained and supervised teachers. More recently, she has developed teacher resources and work books for the Early Years.
